Week Five – Framed

Category : Fiber Arts

This week’s post is all about my crafting, specifically cross-stitch.  I was working on my latest cross-stitch this week when I realized just how cumbersome and awkward my frame was.  I have used my lap frame, like this one, for years and it is wonderful if it is set on a table in front of me, but it doesn’t work so well when sitting on the sofa or other chairs.

Then there is the problem of it constantly getting loose and rotating down while you are working on it.  Since I paid big bucks for this frame many years ago, I had used it as long as possible.  This week it was time for a change.

I searched the internet to see what kind of frames were out there now and stumbled upon this one.

Immediately, I thought “wow, what a great solution!”  Then I looked at the price.  I do not have $85 spare change lying around right now, so it was off to Home Depot and the garage to do some wood working.  After spending $10 at Home Depot and about 30 minutes quality time with my bandsaw, I created my own version of this frame.

It has not been sanded down yet, but it works beautifully!

In addition to starting a new, much needed pair of socks and joining up for Sock Madness 2001, that is what I did this week for fun.  What did you do?

Sock Knitters Anonymous // September Sockdown

Category : Featured, Fiber Arts

I have decided to participate in the Sock Knitter’s Anonymous Challenge for the 2009-2010 year.  The challenge starts in September and runs through July.  September’s Challenge is to knit a pair of socks in one of three categories.  The categories are:  Sock Pair using solid or semi-solid yellow yarn; a sock designed by Wendy Johnson (any color); or the Mystery Sock created for the group by this month’s featured designer Nancy Bush.  I was going to do the mystery, but, have decided instead to do the yellow socks (because I had the yarn in my stash) and, as luck would have it, I also picked a Wendy Johnson pattern.  Here is the first photo:

Yarn is more orange in the photo and more yellow in person.

I am supposed to complete these socks within 2 months.  Shouldn’t be too difficult…famous last words…stay tuned.

Sock Swap

RATS, well, I stopped knitting the endless rounds of foot section too soon on this pair and they are too small for my size 8.5 foot.  Anyone interested in doing a trade for them, perhaps for a pair of 8.5 socks or some sock yarn?  These socks are really awesome and will fit a size 7 to 7.5.  You can see from the photo that I have them on my feet, they are just a little too snug for me.  Anyone game?

Toe Up Socks To Be Frogged! I have been messing around with these socks for some time now and have decided not to waste any more time on them. They gave me a lot of practice and I learned a lot of new things about knitting socks “toe up” that I did not know before, but it is time to say adios!!

In other knitting news, I have passed the halfway point in the test knitting for the Secret of the Stole III. It is going to be so lacy and pretty! I can’t wait for the new group to start!!
