Entrelac Anyone?

Everyone has their own tastes when it comes to knitting. Some love socks, others prefer lace only, etc. I like a wide range of techniques and yarn weights. There is at least one technique that does not appeal to me at all, Entrelac. However, when I found this shawl over at Knit Yoga, I realized that there was, yet again, a reason never to say never.

This may be the only entrelac pattern I would ever consider trying. It is actually very pretty and I can just see it done in fall oranges and browns! Here is the Ravelry link to the free pattern if any of you are interested.

Where Have You Been // I’ve Missed You

Oh my, when I decided to go to graduate school in February of 2009, I knew it would consume my time. I also knew that I would have to choose between blogging and other things I enjoyed doing. For the past year knitting and fibery fun won out. I did not realize is that I would actually miss blogging as much as I have. I am still in school, a little more than halfway done, and I have a part-time online job now as well. We moved to Virginia and back to Auburn. Blazer passed away and Ebby became queen of the house. There are just so many things I should have blogged about this past year and did not. So, here I am, blogging again.

I have begun a new, sewing related, fiber obsession. I can’t disclose the details yet as I am making the first one for a very good friend in Ohio. But, it is almost finished and then I will have a big reveal post. Perhaps I will incorporate a prize or two…

In other news, I have been knitting socks like crazy and am halfway finished with my year long Sock Knitter’s Anonymous challenge of one pair per month. Hand knitted socks are so much more comfortable to wear than store bought! For my Ravelympics entry I decided to try to finish my Frost Flowers and Leaves Shawl.

Taking a quick look at the days left in the Olympics and the amount I still have to knit on this thing, I will not finish in time. However, I do think I will have it to a point where it will be better to finish it than not.

Goodbye 2008, Bring On 2009!

I did not want to do the typical “What did I do in 2008″ post, as the last one of the year. Nor, did I want to do a “What is in store for 2009″. So, to mark the passage of this past year and the beginning of another I thought the following photos would suffice.

We enjoy attending the NCAA Men’s Auburn Basketball games every year and I take my knitting along. The photo on the left was the beginning of the Civil War Shawl during last year’s (2007-2008) season. The one on the right is from this season, one year later. I am almost to the edging and it is actually a lot bigger than it looks.

I’ve Been Knitting

Remember when you all voted and chose my next knitting project to cast on? You all chose the Way of Life Stole. After a frogging episode, I finally got on a roll with this one and this is what it looks like so far. It is about 20% complete.

Here is a close up of the lace pattern.

I have also been working on the Rona Shawl. Here is the proof…

Tonight, I also finished this year’s hat for my grandson. So far I have given him a Christmas hat every year of his life. He will now have three. Photos of the hat tomorrow.

Starting Over on the "Way of Life" Stole

Well, I started the stole pattern that you guys picked out for me. Now I am restarting. The recommended needle size for this stole is US 7 or 8. I went against my better judgment and started with a US 7. Way, way too big for my taste!! So, I am going to restart with a US 4 and see what happens. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, here is the carnage, and a little Blazer sandwich to keep you distracted. No animals were harmed in the creation of these photos.

The great thing about startitis…

is actually finishing several things in quick succession. First off the needles we have, the Mystery Stole 3 that I started over a year ago. It is finally complete. I did not like the wing part of the stole pattern, so I just knit the first half twice and then Kitchner stitched the two halves together. I was very pleased with my join on this one. It is very hard to see where the splice is. Here is the photo of it blocking. Unfortunately, there will be no model shots until the recipient opens it at Christmas.

Whoo Hoo! One Christmas gift completed, several to go….

Our Little Boy Is Not Little Anymore – or – There Is No Turning Back Now

I have been waiting for what seems like forever to do this post. In August our son Bryan was married and I did a short blog post about it. I have been unable to post photos of the wedding because the stole that I made for his bride was the pattern for the Secret of the Stole III. Now that the last hint has been released I can finally show you a few of the thousands of photos their “official” photographer (Mr. K) took of the nuptials. I still cannot reveal the name of the stole, but the photos cannot wait any longer.

The above photos were taken during Sara’s bridal shoot. She was a beautiful bride! The ceremony (below) was performed outdoors at her parent’s cabin in Colorado. The mountains as a backdrop made this, truly, a most scenic wedding setting. The beauty of the mountains, trees, and lakes and, the intimate ceremony with close family and friends, made this a memory that they will forever cherish.

Secret of the Stole III KAL Officially Opens for Members

This is the day I have been working toward. All this lace knitting that I have not been able to share with you is finally complete and will be revealed within the next two months. The Secret of the Stole III KAL group is now open for new members and now the work really begins. I really love this part though, because it keeps me very busy and invariably learning new things.
