Welcome to the newest outlet for all that is me. I have combined the Knitwith.us website and the Nautical Knitter blog into this little corner of the internet that I call Deborah Fillmer dot com. If you are new here and want to know more about my past, check out the Me page. For updates on what I am currently doing or looking forward to, hang out here for a while. Please feel free to leave comments on the posts and get involved in my adventures.
What better way to start a new blog than with a finished object? These socks were started at the beginning of the 2008-2009 college basketball season. They were a great “grab and go” project for taking to the games and the cable pattern was quite simple to memorize. This was the first time I had ever done a cable pattern and the pattern was written well enough for a beginner to understand.
I am a notoriously slow and methodical knitter, so finished objects for me are something to be celebrated! Therefore, I present to you my completed Updraft Socks.
Pattern: Updraft Socks – Air Collection
Modifications: Eliminated the cable pattern on the foot
Yarn: Knitpicks Essential – Ash
Needles: US 0

Hello Humans,
DK has been abducted by creatures from the deep who want to dissect her brain for all her knitty little secrets. For some reason, they wish to learn to knit sexy little swimsuits for their slimy sea creature bodies. If she survives this ordeal she will be returned to her regularly scheduled posting duty by mid-October.
That is all…

I have been meaning to mention these for some time and since insomnia is my friend today, I have been given the time to do an extra post, so here goes.
My mother, Georgia, and stepfather lived abroad in France and Germany for a total of 5 years or so. During that time, my mother kept a journal of their adventures, beginning the day they arrived. She wanted to document their experiences as Americans living and working abroad. Since Georgia’s death, Mr. K has taken her journals and begun the process of entering the entries into a blog located here. He is doing a post every day or so and, when he can, he is finding photographs in their albums that correspond to the entries’ topic. The posts are short, have been very interesting and, occasionally, very funny.
Mr. K also has several other wonderful blogs that you might be interested in. As a prolific photographer, Mr. K has taken thousands of images over the years and he is now sharing these photos with any one who would like to see them through his image of the day posts on his blog. He maintains a faith based blog located here, and of course, if anyone is in need of his web or photographic services you can find more information here.

Well, the day at the salon was loooong and stinky. The stylist cut my hair and then it was on to the perm. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon. I have had my hair permed many times in my life and the smell always makes me wonder why.
Here is the obligatory before shot:

And here are two of my better after perm shots:

I think it is way too curly right now! It will be great for the festival, because I have to put flowers in my hair, etc. But, after we get back home I may look into straightening it or re-perming it on larger rods. Tell me what you think….
